Adam V. Streicher, a 23-year-old white male, tragically lost his life on March 22, 2002, in Stark County, Illinois. Deputy Sheriff Streicher was serving a warrant on a 60-year-old man for misdemeanor failure to appear in court when he was fatally shot. The suspect, who had a long-standing dispute with his neighbors, shot Deputy Streicher with a shotgun. Following the shooting, the suspect also shot two of his neighbors and fled the scene in Deputy Streicher's patrol car. The suspect was later apprehended after being shot and wounded by other officers.
The suspect was convicted of Deputy Streicher's murder and sentenced to death. However, in June 2008, the inmate committed suicide in his prison cell. Deputy Streicher had served with the Stark County Sheriff's Department for one year and was survived by his parents, brother, and sister.
In honor of his service and sacrifice, the Exit 33 overpass over I-80 was renamed the Deputy Adam Streicher-Trooper Chad Wolf Memorial Overpass in January 2018.
