In the afternoon of March 25, 1996, Renée Simard was seen for the last time as she left her family home in Matane, Quebec. Renée had indicated that she was going for a walk, and at approximately 2:30 p.m. she was seen near the wharf along the Matane River at the mouth of the St. Lawrence River.
