In the winter of 1997, a family in Quebec was forever changed by the sudden and unexplained disappearance of Pierrette Bouffard. At the time she went missing, she was described as a white female with blue eyes and gray, wavy hair, standing five feet four inches tall and weighing approximately 142 pounds. One distinguishing characteristic noted by those who knew her was that she walked with a slightly hunched back. On the day she vanished, she was reportedly wearing a nylon blue coat and long black or brown leather boots. Her disappearance left her loved ones with a profound sense of loss and a multitude of unanswered questions. At the time she went missing, it was noted that while she lived with a mental handicap, she was autonomous through the use of her medication and had not displayed any signs of being suicidal. For years, the investigation into Pierrette's whereabouts yielded few answers, and the case eventually grew cold. The passage of time did little to heal the wounds of her family, who were left to wonder what had become of her. Then, in a surprising turn of events in November 2022, a new piece of information emerged, breathing new life into the quarter-century-old case. A cousin of Pierrette, who was employed at the Cité de la Santé hospital in Laval, came forward with a startling revelation. She informed the family and subsequently the police that she had seen a woman bearing a strong resemblance to Pierrette at the hospital on multiple occasions between 2016 and 2019. This new lead was the first significant development in the case in decades and offered a glimmer of hope that Pierrette might still be alive. In response to this credible new information, the Lévis police service decided to reopen the investigation into Pierrette Bouffard's disappearance. A command post was established at the Cité de la Santé hospital in Laval in the hopes of jogging the memory of hospital staff or the public. Investigators distributed documents with photographs and information about Pierrette to over 900 people at the hospital's entrance and also collaborated with the hospital to send an email to its 8,000 employees. While some new information was gathered that required further validation, the command post did not immediately provide a definitive answer as to the identity of the woman seen at the hospital or the current whereabouts of Pierrette.
