DeRez Jamal Griffin, a 20-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on July 13, 2011, in Washington Park, Illinois. He was found shot to death in the early hours of the morning, and the incident was quickly classified as a homicide by the Washington Park Police Department. The investigation was taken over by the Illinois State Police Zone 6 Major Crimes Unit due to the severity of the case.
