Tyrone Lawson, a 17-year-old African American male, was fatally shot on January 16, 2013, outside a high school basketball game held at Chicago State University's Jones Convocation Center. The game was between Morgan Park High School and Simeon High School, two rival schools known for their intense competition. Due to the high-profile nature of the game, it attracted a large crowd, including individuals who were unable to purchase tickets and congregated outside the arena.
