James Schmidt, a 25-year-old white male from Chicago, Illinois, tragically lost his life on June 3, 1973. Schmidt and his fiancée, Dorothy Cerny, also 25, were traveling on Highway 57 in Cook County when they were stopped by a gang of four men. The couple was forcibly removed from their vehicle and made to lie down on the grassy shoulder of the road. Henry Brisbon, identified as the triggerman, shot both Schmidt and Cerny at close range with a shotgun, killing them instantly.
