William Huey “Billy” Carroll Jr., a 16-year-old white male from Chicago, disappeared on June 13, 1976, his older brother's birthday. He had promised his father he would return in an hour before getting into a dark-colored car with three or four other teens. Carroll was known to have a penchant for getting into trouble. His disappearance marked the beginning of a series of murders committed by John Wayne Gacy between June 13 and August 6, 1976.
Carroll's remains were discovered in Gacy's crawl space and identified through dental records on March 17, 1979. He was designated as 'Body 22' among Gacy's victims. Gacy was arrested on December 21, 1978, and later convicted of murdering 33 young men and boys. He was executed by lethal injection on May 10, 1994.
