Herbert Goode, a 66-year-old man from Palos Park, Chicago, was tragically shot and killed on March 1, 2014. He was the owner of Silver Cloud Galleries, a custom framing company located on the Gold Coast. Goode was shot in the chest during what appeared to be a robbery attempt at his industrial building on the Southwest Side of Chicago. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Goode was known for his diverse skills and passion for animals.
He was an active volunteer and donor to animal welfare organizations and had been involved in local school boards and the Boy Scouts of America. His son, Alex Goode, described him as a "jack of all trades" who loved taking in stray animals. Herbert Goode's ashes were spread at Hinsdale Animal Cemetery and Bear Butte State Park in South Dakota, a place he visited annually on motorcycle trips.
The investigation into Goode's death led to the arrest of 29-year-old Tyneil Washington, who was charged with first-degree murder. Washington was apprehended with the help of the Chicago Police Department, Champaign Police Department, Fugitive Apprehension, and the U.S. Marshal's office. The arrest was a result of collaboration between multiple law enforcement agencies, and Washington appeared in Bond Court shortly after his capture.
The case highlighted the dangers faced by small business owners and the impact of violent crime on communities. Herbert Goode's death was a significant loss to his family, friends, and the community, who remembered him fondly for his contributions and kind-hearted nature.
