On July 6, 2014, 25-year-old William Allen from Chicago, Illinois, succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained during a violent Fourth of July weekend. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office reported that Allen was pronounced dead shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Monday, July 7, 2014. He had been shot the previous night, adding to the alarming tally of shootings over the holiday period.
