On December 14, 2014, 21-year-old African American male Terion D. "Tee Dee" Steward was fatally shot in Joliet, Illinois. The incident occurred near the intersection of Joliet Street and McDonough Street, where Terion sustained gunshot wounds to the head and thigh. A 14-year-old boy also suffered a gunshot wound to the foot during the same event.
Following the investigation, authorities identified 16-year-old Demond Fuqua as the shooter and 21-year-old Davia Mayes as the getaway driver in the drive-by shooting. Both individuals were arrested and charged in connection with Terion's death. In 2017, Mayes was sentenced to 18 years in prison for his role as an accomplice. In 2019, Fuqua received a 20-year prison sentence after being convicted of first-degree murder.
Terion Steward was born on May 3, 1993, to Lorene Thomas and Willie Steward, with Fred Stepney serving as his father figure since birth. He graduated from Joliet Township High School in 2011. His untimely death was a significant loss to his family and the Joliet community.
