Jwuan Jones, an 18-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on April 4, 2021, in Joliet, Illinois. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. while Jones was riding as a passenger in a vehicle near Western Avenue and North Bluff Street. Shortly after the shooting, he was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Will County Coroner's Office confirmed that Jones died from a gunshot wound.
The investigation into Jwuan Jones's death led to the arrest of two individuals from Joliet. Adrian Bibian II, a 19-year-old male, and Paola Diaz, a 26-year-old female, were apprehended and charged with murder. Joliet Police detectives identified the vehicle used in the homicide and stopped it on April 5, 2021. The occupants were brought in for questioning, and further investigation revealed the firearm used in the crime was located at a residence on Oneida Street. Detectives recovered the firearm after receiving consent to search the residence. The evidence gathered during the investigation led to the approval of murder charges for both Bibian and Diaz by the Will County State's Attorney's Office.
In addition to the initial arrests, a third suspect, Aidan Marquez-Martinez, a 30-year-old male from Bolingbrook, was later apprehended in connection with the murder of Jwuan Jones. Marquez-Martinez was taken into custody on April 21, 2024, in Portland, Oregon, by the US Marshals Service Investigators. He was subsequently released to the Joliet Police Department and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. The arrest of Marquez-Martinez was the result of a collaborative effort between the US Marshals Service in Portland and the US Marshals Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force.
