Demarcus L. Payne, a 12-year-old African American boy, tragically lost his life on February 2, 2015, in Peoria, Illinois. He was found with a gunshot wound to the head on West McClure Avenue, just a day after his family had moved to Peoria from Chicago in search of a safer environment. The community was deeply affected by his death, and a vigil was held to honor his memory and call for an end to violence in the streets of Peoria.
