Claudia Mister-Luckey, a 28-year-old woman from Chicago, IL, was fatally shot on September 3, 2015, in the Morgan Park neighborhood. Claudia, who was standing with friends, was approached by Darrick Wells, a 36-year-old man from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Wells allegedly began firing at the group, striking Claudia multiple times.
She was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced dead at 5:35 a.m. on September 3, 2015. An autopsy confirmed that Claudia died from multiple gunshot wounds, and her death was ruled a homicide.
Darrick Wells, who had a history of criminal activity, including convictions for attempted murder and possession of a firearm, was identified as the suspect. Surveillance footage showed Wells pacing in the parking lot of the club with a gun before the shooting. He was arrested by U.S. marshals in Cedar Rapids on September 14, 2015, after an outstanding warrant was issued in connection with Claudia's homicide. Wells was charged with first-degree murder and held without bail. During his bond court hearing, it was revealed that there was no known relationship between Wells and Claudia or any of the people in the group with her at the time of the shooting.
