Laron McCoy, a 25-year-old African American male, was fatally shot on July 5, 2016, in the South Chicago neighborhood. The incident occurred around 1:15 p.m. in the 8100 block of South Burnham Avenue during an argument over a car. According to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office, McCoy was shot in the head by Rondale Parker, a 22-year-old man, during the altercation. McCoy, who resided in the 9700 block of South Luella, was pronounced dead at South Shore Hospital.
