On August 1, 2016, Clark D. Travis Jr., a 49-year-old African American male from Lockport, Illinois, was found deceased in Joliet, Illinois. Born on July 31, 1967, Clark was the son of Wenonah Travis and the late Clark D. Travis Sr. He was a father to six children: Clark D. Travis III, Ivanna, Xavier, Aramis, Dylan, and Addison. He also had three grandchildren: Stephen Hayes Jr., Zayden Travis, and Zakhi Hayes.
Clark was known by the nickname "Mundy" and was remembered fondly by his family and friends.
On that day, around 2:09 a.m., a passerby discovered two men inside a maroon SUV in the 400 block of Sherman Street in Joliet. Both individuals had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victims were identified as Clark D. Travis Jr. and 25-year-old Jonathan Riddle. The vehicle they were found in was reported stolen.
Following the incident, the Joliet Police Department sought information from the public to aid in their investigation. Despite these efforts, no motive was established for the double homicide, and the case remains unsolved. As of May 2018, the murders of Clark D. Travis Jr. and Jonathan Riddle were among 28 unsolved homicides in Joliet since 2013.
