Maurice McKnight, a 26-year-old African American male, was tragically shot to death on September 19, 2016, in the Altgeld Gardens neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred around 11 a.m. in the 13100 block of South Langley Avenue. According to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, McKnight was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:08 p.m. after being shot multiple times. The autopsy confirmed that he had sustained several gunshot wounds.
McKnight and another man, aged 20, were involved in an argument with an unidentified individual who subsequently pulled out a gun and opened fire. The 20-year-old man was shot in the chest and left arm but survived the attack after being taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.
Following the incident, investigations were launched to identify and apprehend the perpetrator. In December 2016, a reputed gang member was charged with the murder of Maurice McKnight. The suspect was denied bail and faced legal proceedings for the crime.
