Donte T. Jones, a 36-year-old African American male, died on October 2, 2016, in Markham, Illinois, following a police-involved shooting. The incident occurred in the early morning hours outside the Stadium nightclub, located at 16300 Dixie Highway. Jones was at the club celebrating a friend's birthday when a large fight broke out in the rear parking lot. The altercation involved between fifty to one hundred people, prompting security to call 911 for assistance.
Markham Police Department officers, including Officer Carl Wright, responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they encountered a chaotic situation with individuals throwing objects and engaging in physical altercations. During the commotion, Donte Jones discharged a firearm, causing further panic among the crowd. Surveillance footage captured Jones firing his weapon, although no one was struck by the shot. As Jones ran towards the officers with his gun in hand, Officer Wright fired multiple shots, hitting Jones in the chest, back, right thigh, right arm, and left hand.
