On November 25, 2016, in Chicago's Homan Square neighborhood, 35-year-old Jeffery Banks was fatally shot by 37-year-old Cleotha Mitchell. The incident occurred shortly before 12:30 a.m. in the 600 block of Central Park Avenue. Officers on patrol in the area heard gunfire and reportedly observed Mitchell shooting Banks. Mitchell also allegedly shot a second individual in the arm, who was later hospitalized in stable condition. Both Banks and Mitchell were pronounced dead at the scene. ((
