In the winter of 2017, just weeks before his twentieth birthday, 19-year-old Jose Montero, a young Hispanic man from Boston, was fatally shot in the Mission Hill neighborhood. The incident, which also claimed the life of 17-year-old Ameen Lacy and left a third individual wounded, sent ripples of grief and fear through the community.
