Steven Winston, a 33-year-old African American man, tragically died on July 13, 2017, in Chicago, IL. The incident occurred in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. According to reports, Steven Winston was sitting in a parked car around 11:55 p.m. in the 6100 block of South Winchester when a handgun he had tucked in his waistband accidentally discharged. Despite being rushed to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, he succumbed to his injuries at 12:57 a.m. the following day.
The Cook County medical examiner's office conducted an autopsy but did not immediately determine the cause and manner of death, pending further investigation. The Chicago Police Department recovered the handgun from the scene and initiated a death investigation. The incident was classified as a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and no arrests or suspects were reported in connection with Steven Winston's death.
