On the night of July 14, 2017, at approximately 11:14 PM, police officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 40 block of St. Ambrose Drive in Cahokia, Illinois. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of Diondre Demetrius Shanklin, a 23-year-old African American male from East St. Louis, lying in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
