On February 6, 2024, Bradford L. Readus, a 22-year-old male from Memphis, Tennessee, was fatally shot in Cahokia Heights, Illinois. The incident occurred in the 700 block of Mildred Avenue, where officers responded to a report of a person shot inside a residence around 1:04 p.m..
Upon arrival, police found Bradford Readus, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Cahokia Heights Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad, a unit of investigators from various police departments in the region, to aid in the investigation of this homicide.
As a result of the investigation led by the Major Case Squad, with Lt. Rob Thomason of the Belleville PD as the commander, and involving Deputy Report Officers Det. Kevin Phegley from Columbia PD and Sgt. Kyle Bade from Shiloh PD, a suspect was identified and charged. Niko A. Goree, aged 21, was charged with 1st Degree Murder in connection with Bradford Readus's death.
