Jerry McCarter, a 41-year-old African American male from Bellwood, IL, was tragically killed on August 28, 2017. On that fateful evening, McCarter and another individual were sitting on their porch on the 400 block of 24th Avenue when a group of people approached them and began shooting. McCarter was struck in the torso and was subsequently taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead at 9:37 p.m.

The investigation into McCarter's death revealed that the shooting was a targeted attack, although the exact motive remains unclear. The Bellwood Police Department, led by Chief Jiminez Allen, launched an extensive investigation to identify and apprehend the suspects involved. Despite their efforts, no arrests have been made, and the case remains unsolved.

In the aftermath of the shooting, McCarter's family and the Bellwood community were left devastated by the loss. The incident sparked discussions about gun violence and the need for increased safety measures in the area. Local authorities have continued to urge anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The lack of progress in the investigation has led to frustration and calls for more resources to be allocated to solving the case. McCarter's death is a stark reminder of the ongoing issue of gun violence in communities across the United States, and the need for continued efforts to address this pressing problem.
