On Sunday, October 1, 2017, officers in Kankakee were called to a residence on the 1000 block of West Hickory Street, where they found Luis Antonio Martinez, a 25-year-old Hispanic male fatally wounded.
An autopsy determined the 25-year-old male had suffered at least one gunshot wound, and police opened a homicide investigation that marked the fifth killing recorded in the city that year.
