On October 29, 2017, 19-year-old Shaft D. Wilson Jr. from North Chicago, Illinois, was fatally shot during a Halloween party in Lake Forest. The incident occurred around 12:05 a.m. in the 1300 block of West Estate Lane East. Authorities reported that an argument broke out among several partygoers, during which someone pulled out a gun and opened fire, resulting in Wilson's death.
