On the evening of November 18, 2017, 48-year-old Todd Daniel Feldkamp, a white male from Effingham, Illinois, was found deceased in the backyard of a residence at 1660 N. Edward Street in Decatur. Responding to reports of gunshots shortly before 9 p.m., Decatur police officers discovered Feldkamp's body, who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Nearby, they also found a 25-year-old male from Effingham with serious but non-life-threatening injuries; his identity was not disclosed at the time.
Investigations revealed that Keirsean Bond, a 26-year-old black male from Decatur, orchestrated a plan to lure Feldkamp and the other victim to Decatur under the pretense of a drug deal. The actual intent was to rob and murder them. Bond was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery. He pleaded not guilty, asserting that he was not the shooter but had facilitated the meeting.
In August 2018, Bond was found guilty of the first-degree murder of Todd Feldkamp and the attempted murder of the second victim. He was sentenced to 30 years for first-degree murder and two concurrent 10-year sentences for attempted murder and armed robbery, to be served at 85% of the term.
Todd Feldkamp was born on December 2, 1968, in Effingham, Illinois. He worked as a sanitation engineer for 15 years with Allied Waste Services in the southern suburbs of Chicago before returning to Effingham in 2005 with his family. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Annette, their two daughters, Alex and Sydney, and two granddaughters. He was remembered as a comical and sarcastic man who brought smiles to many faces.
