Horacio Galvan-Hernandez, a 46-year-old Hispanic man, tragically lost his life on January 24, 2018, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the owner of Envios De Dinero, a currency exchange business located in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood. On the day of his death, Galvan-Hernandez was working at his store when a masked robber, later identified as Paul Granados, entered the premises and announced a robbery.
During the robbery, Granados fired a shot that struck Galvan-Hernandez in the head.
Despite immediate medical attention, Galvan-Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m., and the suspect fled the scene but was later apprehended by the police.
Following the investigation, Paul Granados, a 54-year-old man, was charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, and possession of a controlled substance. Surveillance footage from the scene played a crucial role in identifying Granados as the perpetrator. He was taken into custody two days after the incident and denied bond at a subsequent hearing. Granados was scheduled to return to court on February 16, 2018.
