In the quiet Garfield Ridge neighborhood on Chicago's Southwest Side, the evening of January 6, 2026, was shattered by gunfire that claimed the life of 78-year-old Marvin Cook. A male resident of the community, Cook was inside his home on South Lamon Avenue when he was struck by a fatal gunshot to the chest. First responders found him unresponsive, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
