William Edward Spann Jr., a 75-year-old African American man, was found dead in a burning minivan in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago on September 11, 2019. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office determined that Spann died from multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide. The circumstances surrounding his death were particularly tragic, as his body was discovered in the passenger seat of the minivan, which was engulfed in flames.
