Shemilah "Lala" Sanders, a 22-year-old African American woman, tragically passed away on June 9, 2020, in Decatur, Illinois. Shemilah was found with a gunshot wound to her neck on June 6, 2020, near the Garfield underpass. Despite being rushed to Decatur Memorial Hospital, she succumbed to her injuries three days later. The Macon County coroner confirmed her death, marking a sorrowful end to a young life filled with potential.
