Dearius E. Jones, a 32-year-old African American man from Springfield, Illinois, tragically lost his life on August 8, 2020. He was shot multiple times in the upper body outside the Wet Bar nightclub in downtown Springfield. The incident occurred just before 3 a.m. following a private event at the nightclub, which led to a large crowd gathering outside.
