Steven Garcia, a 38-year-old Hispanic male, was fatally shot on September 6, 2020, at a BP gas station located at 39th Street and Archer Avenue in Brighton Park, Chicago. The incident occurred over Labor Day weekend. Garcia and his wife had initially attempted to enter the gas station to purchase a snack but were turned away for not wearing face masks. Garcia then took off his shirt so his wife could use it as a face covering and waited outside while she went back into the store.
