Catrice Ware, a 21-year-old African American woman from Chicago, IL, tragically lost her life on November 18, 2020, in a shooting incident in the Lawndale neighborhood. Catrice Ware was struck in the abdomen and head and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Alongside her, three other individuals were injured: a 29-year-old man shot in the body, a 22-year-old man shot in the back and neck, and another 29-year-old man shot in the right leg. All three were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
In a related incident on the same day, Catrice Ware and a 29-year-old man were in a southbound vehicle on South Hamlin Boulevard in East Garfield Park when someone in a dark-colored vehicle pulled up next to them and opened fire. Catrice Ware was struck in the abdomen and thigh and was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital. The 29-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was stabilized at the same hospital. Initially, police believed the pair were victims of the Lawndale shooting, as they arrived at the hospital simultaneously with the other victims.
The investigations into Catrice Ware's death are ongoing, with Area Four detectives handling the case. As of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been identified. The police are actively seeking information and leads to apprehend those responsible for the shootings. The tragic loss of Catrice Ware has left her family and community in mourning, as they seek justice for the senseless violence that claimed her life.
