Lizzette N. Mata, a 16-year-old girl from Chicago, Illinois, tragically lost her life on December 3, 2020. Lizzette, who was of Hispanic descent, was fatally shot while attempting to intervene in an assault in the Gage Park neighborhood. On that fateful evening, Lizzette and an 18-year-old man were walking home after dining at a restaurant when they were confronted by a group of four males who exited an SUV. The group began to beat the man, prompting Lizzette to run to a nearby friend for help.
