Vanisha M. Patrick, a 33-year-old African American woman from Little Village, Chicago, was tragically found dead on January 4, 2021. She was discovered unresponsive inside a parked vehicle in the 3600 block of West Polk Street in the Lawndale neighborhood. Vanisha had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to her head, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County medical examiner's office ruled her death a homicide.
On the evening of her death, Vanisha was in the company of several male acquaintances when a white sport-utility vehicle approached and its occupants began firing at the group. The gunfire struck Vanisha in the head and also hit surrounding vehicles and residential buildings. The Chicago Police Department launched a homicide investigation, with Area Four detectives leading the efforts to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death.
Despite the ongoing investigation, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case remains open, with detectives continuing to seek information and leads that could bring justice for Vanisha and her family.
