Andrew Contreras, a 29-year-old Hispanic male from Aurora, Illinois, was tragically shot and killed on January 12, 2021, in Montgomery, Illinois. The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on the Route 30 overpass near Route 31. Officers responding to the scene found Contreras suffering from a gunshot wound inside a vehicle. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

On October 5, 2023, Rodolfo Madrigal, a resident of Streator, Illinois, was arrested by U.S. Marshals in connection with the shooting. Madrigal was charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder. According to the police, Madrigal had fired shots from another vehicle, striking Contreras multiple times before fleeing the scene.
The case remains open as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and any potential involvement of additional individuals.
