On February 19, 2021, 30-year-old Mykel James Curry was found deceased in a vehicle near Lincoln Middle School in Rockford, Illinois. The vehicle had come to rest in front of the school, prompting a brief lockdown of both Lincoln Middle School and East High School as a precautionary measure. The Winnebago County Coroner's Office confirmed that Curry had died from a gunshot wound.
