On the evening of April 9, 2021, Urbana police responded to reports of shots fired at the Prairie Green Apartments, located at 2507 Prairie Green Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered 34-year-old Eric D. Kirk Jr., a male resident of Urbana, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation revealed dozens of shell casings and multiple bullet strikes in the parking lot, indicating a significant exchange of gunfire.
