Timothy Nesbit, a 16-year-old boy from Zion, Illinois, tragically lost his life on June 24, 2021. The incident occurred in a home on Elim Avenue in Zion, where Timothy and a 20-year-old woman named Winter L. Wright were reportedly playing around with a gun. The firearm accidentally discharged, striking Timothy. Despite the efforts of paramedics who arrived on the scene and transported him to a local hospital, Timothy was pronounced dead approximately one hour after his arrival.
Timothy Nesbit, identified as a young male from Kenosha, was involved in what authorities have deemed an accidental shooting. The Zion Police Department and Zion Fire Rescue Department responded to the emergency call at around 5:36 a.m. on the day of the incident. The investigation revealed that several other juveniles were present in the home at the time of the shooting but fled the scene immediately after the gun was fired.
Winter L. Wright was subsequently arrested on June 26, 2021, and charged with involuntary manslaughter and three counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. She remains held in the Lake County Jail on a $250,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on July 14, 2021. Additionally, Katrina Marshall, a 39-year-old woman who also resided in the same home, was arrested for interfering with police officers and battering them while they were attempting to render aid to Timothy. Marshall faces charges of aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting arrest.
The tragic death of Timothy Nesbit has been classified as an accident by detectives, although the presence of multiple juveniles and the circumstances surrounding the handling of the firearm have raised significant concerns.
