On August 15, 2021, Serenity Broughton, a 7-year-old African American girl, was tragically shot and killed in Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred in the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood on the city's Northwest Side. Serenity and her 6-year-old sister, Aubrey Broughton, were sitting in a parked car when two gunmen emerged from an alley and opened fire.
