Veronica Rizzo-Acevedo, a 50-year-old Chicago police officer, was tragically killed on April 20, 2014, in a domestic murder-suicide at her home in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood. Her husband, Javier Acevedo, a 25-year veteran of the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, shot Rizzo-Acevedo before turning the gun on himself.
