On May 9, 2023, Nicole Watson, a 44-year-old mother, was fatally shot in the Near West Side neighborhood of Chicago. The incident occurred as she was picking up her 13-year-old son, Jacob, from her parents' home in the 2300 block of West Van Buren Street.
