A talented music student and trumpet and steel‑drum performer with the band Island Fever, he was living on the sixth floor of Dykstra Hall on campus, situated at Gayley Avenue and Strathmore Drive.
On the night of his disappearance, Michael had attended a party with fellow students before returning to his room around midnight to play an online intranet video game with a friend in another room. The game ended around 4:00 a.m., at which point he logged off and went to congratulate his friend. The friend saw him heading back toward his own room, which is the last confirmed sighting of him.
Michael’s roommate awoke at approximately 9:00 a.m. to find him gone. Inside the room were his wallet, keys, shoes, clothing, musical instruments, and all personal belongings—suggesting he left without planning to do so or with no intention of going far.
