Melissa Ortega, an 8-year-old Hispanic girl, tragically lost her life on January 22, 2022, in Chicago, Illinois. Melissa was walking with her mother in the Little Village neighborhood when a gunman emerged from a nearby alley and opened fire. The intended target was a 26-year-old gang member, but Melissa was struck twice in the head by stray bullets. The incident occurred around 2:55 p.m. on 26th Street near Pulaski Road.
