In the early morning hours of August 2, 2015, the life of a 24-year-old White male, Jeffrey Sylvia Jr., was tragically cut short on the streets of New Bedford, Massachusetts. Just before 1:40 a.m., the city's ShotSpotter system detected gunshots near the intersection of Acushnet Avenue and Blackmer Street. First responders arrived to a grim scene, finding Sylvia lying in the street with a single gunshot wound to his face. Despite efforts to render aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
