Tierra Franklin, a 17-year-old African American girl from Chicago, IL, tragically lost her life on July 1, 2022. Tierra was fatally shot outside a McDonald's in the Little Village neighborhood. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. when Tierra, who was in the care of the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) following the deaths of her parents, was involved in an altercation at the fast-food restaurant.
According to reports, Tierra threw a cup of water at a McDonald's employee during an ongoing dispute. This act led to a fatal confrontation with 19-year-old Anthony Heredia, who was summoned to the scene by an unidentified friend of the employees.
Heredia, who was on parole at the time, approached Tierra on a bicycle and shot her twice, striking her in the back as she attempted to flee to a car. Tierra was rushed to St. Anthony Hospital by her family, where she was pronounced dead. The shooting was captured on surveillance cameras, which also recorded Heredia returning to the scene to retrieve a shell casing. This evidence, along with a matching shell casing found in Heredia's possession, led to his arrest shortly after the incident.
Anthony Heredia was charged with first-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. He appeared in court and was held without bail.
