Deputy Sheriff R. Benton Woods, a 31-year-old white male, was tragically killed on May 13, 1911, in Swainsboro, Georgia. Woods was serving with the Emanuel County Sheriff's Office at the time of his death. The incident occurred when Woods approached the city marshal, who was escorting a prisoner to the jail.
