In the summer of 1974, the small town of Zebulon, Georgia, was rocked by a brutal crime that tore a family apart. On the evening of July 3rd, while the nation prepared to celebrate Independence Day, 51-year-old Walter O'Neal Allanson and his wife, Carolyn, were gunned down in the basement of their home. The violent end to their lives was the culmination of a bitter and escalating feud within their own family.
The conflict centered around their son, Walter Thomas 'Tom' Allanson, and his new wife, Patricia 'Pat' Allanson. Walter and Carolyn disapproved of the marriage, leading to a deep rift between father and son. This animosity festered, fueled by accusations and threats from both sides. Patricia claimed that her father-in-law had made inappropriate advances towards her, which led to Tom obtaining a restraining order against his own father. Throughout the investigation and subsequent trial, his wife, Patricia, remained a central and controversial figure. She was described by many as a manipulative woman who had a strong influence over her husband.
Ultimately, a jury found Walter Thomas Allanson guilty of the murders of his mother and father. He was sentenced to two concurrent life sentences for the crimes.
