On a cool evening in Atlanta, Georgia, a young woman named Diane Collins was enjoying a date, a prelude to what should have been a long and happy life. The night of March 12, 1977, however, took a tragic and violent turn, leaving a community in fear and a family heartbroken. Diane, a 20-year-old female, was in a car with her fiancé, Gordon Whitfield, at Adams Park, a spot known as a local lovers' lane.
