On a summer evening in 2020, the life of 24-year-old Sherika Monique Little was tragically cut short in what authorities described as an act of domestic violence. On June 6, while she sat in her parked vehicle at the Hilton Perimeter Suites on Peachtree Dunwoody Road in Sandy Springs, a city in the Atlanta metropolitan area, she was fatally shot. The person responsible was her boyfriend, Fortune Jaquan Spencer, then 25, of Lilesville, North Carolina.
Following the shooting, Spencer fled
the scene on foot, embarking on a violent crime spree. He first attempted to carjack a vehicle at the intersection of Peachtree-Dunwoody Road and Hammond Drive, shooting the driver, an Atlanta Police intelligence officer, in the arm. The officer's injuries were not life-threatening. Shortly after, Spencer successfully carjacked a second vehicle from an elderly woman but soon crashed it near the Cox Enterprises corporate headquarters. Undeterred, he then tried to carjack three other vehicles and was struck by one of them in the process. His chaotic escape attempt came to an end when he was apprehended by police as he tried to flee on foot.
Fortune Jaquan Spencer was arrested and faced a litany of charges, including murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, motor vehicle hijacking, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. In February 2025, a Fulton County jury found Spencer guilty on all 22 counts against him. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 145 years.
